Takehiro Tomiyasu has spent three seasons at Arsenal and has endeared himself to the fans with his committed style of play and consistency.
However, injuries have been the bane of Tomiyasu in his time at Arsenal with the fullback suffering some layouts in all three seasons with the club so far. His versatility has been a bright spark for the team and he has featured across several positions at the back.
The emergence of William Saliba saw Ben White shunted to the right back berth, which affected Tomiyasu’s minutes adversely, but he always stayed like a seasoned pro and did his thing on the pitch whenever he was summoned.
At the business end of last season, Arsenal would have benefited from Tomiyasu’s presence on the pitch but a freak knee injury saw him miss the remainder of the campaign, as the club’s title challenge went to the trenches.
Tomiyasu had signed a four year deal with Arsenal and the Gunners have the option of a fifth. It has been reported that the club is exploring the option of extending Tomiyasu’s contract, which is very pleasing if you ask me. He has been a loyal player to the club, has been a model of consistency and adds to the squad depth.
He sadly suffered the ignominy of elimination in the hands of Iran in the Asian Cup and will be building his fitness ahead of the games coming thick and fast.
