Burnley 0-5 Arsenal: Five Star Gunners Triumph in Turf Moor

Burnley 0-5 Arsenal – Bukayo Saka scores brace as Arsenal hammer Burnley to keep pace with leaders Liverpool - Eurosport

Match Report  Match Highlights  Post-Match Press Conference

Final Result: Burnley 0-5 Arsenal (Odegaard 4′, Saka 41′, 47′, Trossard 66′, Havertz 78′)

Arsenal XI (4-3-3): Raya; Kiwior, Saliba, Gabriel, White (Cedric 69′); Rice (Jorginho 79′), Odegaard, Havertz (Smith Rowe 84′); Martinelli, Saka (Nelson 69′), Trossard (Nketiah 69′)

With Liverpool thrashing Brentford earlier in the day to move their lead at the top to five points, Arsenal knew that anything less than a win against Burnley was unacceptable. As expected, Vincent Kompany stuck to his guns and after just four minutes, Arsenal went ahead when Gabriel Martinelli shimmied past his marker and drilled it to Martin Odegaard’s path. The Arsenal captain took the ball in his stride and smashed it past James Trafford in the Burnley goal.

The Arsenal onslaught continued and the away side had a golden chance when Leandro Trossard was scythed down in the box. There was some deliberation on who was going to take the spot kick, with Odegaard and Bukayo Saka in contention, but the Starboy stepped up and converted the kick, even though Trafford followed it and failed to get a hand to it.

Arsenal put the game beyond Burnley when Saka latched onto Odegaard’s pass, took the ball to his right hand side and smashed the ball to the roof of the net. As expected, a flurry of substitutions took center stage when Mikel Arteta having half an eye on the FC Porto fixture on Wednesday, but the fourth goal was slammed in by Trossard, that had another great game deputizing for Gabriel Jesus. The fact that he was subbed for Nketiah confirms that the gaffer wants his services at Portugal with Gabriel Jesus still out of contention. Like the West Ham game, Trossard continued to switch places with Kai Havertz, a tactical move that kept the opposition guessing.

Havertz himself placed the icing on a well baked cake when he latched onto a quick throw from Jakub Kiwior, turning the Burnley defender inside out before side-footing the ball past Trafford to make it five. With Chelsea holding the defending champions in their home turf, Arsenal are now two points ahead of Manchester City and have a superior goal difference as well, which bodes well with everyone associated with the club.

Since the Dubai warm weather training, Arsenal has played five games, won five games, scored 21 goals and conceded just two. The form has to continue and I hope we don’t have any injuries to disrupt our play.
