Arsenal midfielder Jorginho believes the gunners need to go into Sunday’s Premier League clash against Manchester City with the desire to win.
This comes off the back of Arsenal beating Spurs 1-0 in the North London derby. A goal from Gabriel in the 64th minute was enough to seal all three points. Mikel Arteta was proud that his team were able to win despite missing key players. Among the absentees were Martin Odegaard, Declan Rice and Riccardo Calafiori.
The win on Sunday saw the Gunners keep the gap between them and league leaders Manchester City to two points.
Jorginho expects a winning mentality on Sunday
Last season, Arsenal were able to take four points off Man City in their two games. The Gunners beat the eventual champions at the Emirates. Jorginho believes that Arsenal will not settle for a draw on Sunday:
“If you want to achieve big things you need to have the mentality of trying to win every single game,” he said.
“You have to keep believing in what you are doing. We are doing that and we keep working hard to improve. We are on the right path and we need to keep it going.”
This is not the first time the Italian has spoken about how tough Arsenal have become. Jorginho praised Mikel Arteta for changing the mentality in the Gunners’ dressing room since he took over:
“The mentality now is different because you can see the hunger of wanting to win.
“The way you train every day, the information you have — even pictures at the training ground. Everything’s about winning.
“It’s really good as Mikel put up all these messages you see. It gets into your mind when you keep seeing them and you start to believe it.
“Then you get into the habit. You have the motivation and all we want to do is win.”
Arsenal not worried about Erling Haaland
Jorginho also spoke on Manchester City striker Erling Haaland. The Arsenal midfielder says his team are aware of how dangerous the Norwegian can be:
“Erling scoring again, it is starting to make us laugh.
“We look at City’s results because we look at all the games and we love football. We love the Premier League so we watch all the games to be fair. It doesn’t get to our head. We need to focus on us and that is what we are trying to do.”
Haaland has already scored nine goals in the league this season – the next player closest to the goal tally has only three.
