Takeaways From Southampton Pre-Match Press Conference

>

Mikel Arteta faced the journos for the presser ahead of the clash against Southampton. The game against Southampton at the Emirates brings bad memories after the 3-3 draw a couple of seasons ago, which derailed the Premier League title charge.

Arsenal come into this game after a good win against PSG but there was an injury concern for Jurrien Timber after he was substituted at half time. Arteta was questioned about Kai Havertz’s great home form, Aaron Ramsdale’s homecoming and more.

Arteta’s update on injuries

The Arsenal manager confirmed that the training sessions for Jurrien Timber, Ben White and Takehiro Tomiyasu have been modified to facilitate their availability for the Southampton game. In the win over PSG, Jakub Kiwior came on as a half time sub for Timber, moving Riccardo Calafiori to an unorthodox right back berth for the entirety of the second half.

Arteta also confirmed that Oleksandr Zinchenko and Martin Odegaard may be available after the international break.

Kai Havertz’s form

With Havertz scoring five goals this season, which also includes a goal in his last five games at the Emirates Stadium, Arteta was questioned about his form and whether he was capable of hitting the 20-goal mark. The manager touched on his initial struggles after signing from Chelsea and how he believes Havertz has the quality to be 20-goal forward.

He could do with a goal or two against Southampton.

Ramsdale’s homecoming

As expected, the gaffer had great things to say about Aaron Ramsdale and touched on how the club gave him an enabling environment to harness his potential before sanctioning his sale to Southampton.
