BBC pundit says Arsenal will be the underdog against Liverpool on Sunday

>

Arsenal will face Premier League leaders Liverpool in one of the biggest matches that could determine the title race early this season.

It may seem ridiculous to already be talking about a title race in October, but the form of some teams in the league has been incredible.

Manchester City, Liverpool and Arsenal are separated by just four points. The gunners would have been within one point of the Reds if they did not lose to Bournemouth last weekend.

The Reds have scored the fourth most goals in the Premier League and are the best defence so far, having conceded just three goals.

Arsenal have scored the same number of goals as Liverpool and are the third best defence in the league.

All is set for a blockbuster clash on Sunday, but strangely, TalkSport pundit Jamie O’Hara has said Mikel Arteta’s style of play guarantees that this weekend’s game will be boring. Both Arsenal and Liverpool will be struggling with injury issues as Martin Odegaard, Diogo Jota, and Alisson are set to miss out on the game.

Arsenal will be the underdog – Nedum Onuoha

Former Manchester City defender and current BBC pundit Nedum Onuoha has suggested that the gunners will be the underdog heading into this weekend’s clash:

“I think Arteta understands the importance of the start to the season, but I think he understands more so the way that they could potentially finish it.

“I think that throughout the year there will be ups and downs – and maybe this is, relatively, their down. If this is where they are with that down, then I wouldn’t be too concerned.”

Arsenal fans would disagree with this take, but after shaky results in recent games, Onuoha may have a point.

Mikel Arteta’s men had to come from behind to beat newly promoted Southampton and Leicester City in back to back games. Arsenal also slipped to a defeat at Bournemouth, something Declan Rice deemed ‘unacceptable’.

“I think the disappointment after losing to Bournemouth is going to be big, but I think the fact that they are going to face the test against Liverpool and, weirdly, at home they will possibly feel a bit like the underdog – I think that suits who they want to be in this particular moment.”

“I think the crowd will be well up for it. I think the players will be as well.

“And if they do manage to win this game, then it is a boost that they probably didn’t think they would need at this time, but the belief would be there 100%.”
