PSG set to make £80 million bid for Arsenal star

PSG continue to dominate the French Ligue Un with a healthy six point gap ahead of Olympique Marseille at the top of the table. It’s also worth noting that Luis Enrique’s side are currently unbeaten in the French division, winning eight of the first 10 games of the season and sharing the spoils in two.

The defensive pairing Enrique has favored is the combination of the experienced Marquinhos and the much younger William Pacho. Pacho is a kid with a lot of potential and the amount of football he has been exposed to has helped his cause, with PSG trusting him with consistent game time, even in an elite competition like the Champions League.

Pacho’s regular time in the side has coincided with star player, Lucas Hernandez, suffering an ACL injury that ruled him out for many months. Presnel Kimpembe is also struggling with injury, leaving Milan Skriniar as the only alternative in center back, leaving PSG desperately short of options.

As expected, PSG are looking to the transfer market to sign a new defender and Arsenal’s defensive colossus, William Saliba, has been identified as a potential target. Saliba has been an instrumental player for Arsenal with statistics showing the impact of his absence from the team, as well as his influence when he plays.

It’s fair to say that Arsenal lost the 2022/23 Premier League title due to the loss of Saliba in the business end of the season, without Rob Holding playing in his stead and struggling badly alongside the usually reliable Gabriel Magalhaes.

I would expect Arsenal to rebuff the offer from PSG but they will also need to find a way to fend off Real Madrid that has identified Saliba as a target as well.
