Saliba’s injury adds to Arsenal’s defensive woes

William Saliba was a surprise omission in Arsenal’s 2-2 draw against Aston Villa. His presence was hugely felt, because this unavailability forced Mikel Arteta to play Thomas Partey in an unorthodox right back role. Sadly, Arsenal head coach, Mikel Arteta, couldn’t give a definitive timeline of Saliba’s injury absence,

“Not yet, I think tomorrow we will have more information, we will have more tests on him and we will be more clear about it.”

This is a big problem for Arsenal, as the squad is hugely depleted from a plethora of injuries, and the bigger problem is the imbalance in the side when Partey plays right back.

Arsenal’s form with Partey at right back has been atrocious to say the least.

This includes a win over Southampton, a loss to Newcastle United, and four draws against Liverpool, Fulham, Brighton and Hove Albion and Aston Villa. It is even more frustrating with the fact that Ben White is out following surgery and Takehiro Tomiyasu out for quite a considerable chunk of time.

We will have to wait for more information on Saliba and hope he will be available for selection soon, especially with that crunch fixture against Manchester City on the horizon.
