Anytime Manchester United and Arsenal clash, there’s always that intensity in the air because of the long-standing rivalry between both clubs. Since the Old Trafford ended Arsenal’s Invincible unbeaten record in 2004, they have had 17 wins and five draws while the Gunners have managed just six wins with the last being the narrow 1-0 win in 2011 courtesy of an Aaron Ramsey goal.
Paul Scholes recently wrote a piece on the Independent talking about the rivalry between the clubs and how the 2005 FA Cup final defeat still hurts him. He went on to talk about the usual Arsenal ‘no trophy’ clichĂŠ and wrote about how they lacked leaders. That’s like pouring water off a duck’s back to Arsenal fans but if it wasn’t enough, he took a jab at Arsenal’s record signing, Mesut Ozil,
“Itâs why I think Mesut Ozil took the easy option joining Arsenal. Since he has been there you cannot doubt his quality but at times he looks like he is going through the motions, however much ground he covers. He needs a leader around him to get him going. At Real Madrid he had a chance of winning league titles. At Arsenal that is not on the cards.”
As expected, Arsene Wenger came out in defense of his star midfielder, stating that “Paul Scholes would love to have played with a player like Mesut Ozil.” – which is so true. Shortly after his amazing showing at the 2010 FIFA World Cup, many clubs were interested in snapping him up from Werder Bremen and if I remember clearly, Manchester United were very keeping a close eye on the German.
However, Arsenal fans took to Twitter to show their undying support for the German and here’s my pick from the pack,
If you have any problems in life, ask @MesutOzil1088, he will ASSĂST you #OzilAppreciationDay

In 59 games for the Gunners, he has notched up 11 goals, provided 28 assists, made 95 key passes and created over 100 chances for his teammates. If you have a problem, just ask Ozil, he’d definitely assist you.

Ozil played a significant role in Germany’s demolition of Brazil and even created an assist for Sami Khedira on the night. Just see David Luiz paying his respects.

Some say he’s lazy but since February 1 he has covered more distance than any other Arsenal player. Incredible stuff.
