Brentford Preview: Team News, Injury Updates and Predicted Lineups

Arsenal fans fume at 'VAR corruption' as Brentford score opening goal of season - Daily Star

It still feels like yesterday when Sergi Canos and Christian Norgaard scored the goals that sent the Brentford faithful inmto delirium on the opening night of the Premier League season in August. 25 games on and Brentford are still establishing themselves as a decent mid-table outfit, while Arsenal are gunning for a spot in the coveted European places with stiff competition on all corners. At this point, the focus of the gaffer, Mikel Arteta, and the lads would be to win as many games as possible and see where it takes them come May.

Both sides had the week off and must have had enough time to recover and strategize on what will be an important match on both sides of the table. Arsenal can take some confidence in the fact that they are currently unbeaten against promoted sides at home in their last 32 games – winning a whooping 27 and sharing the spoils in five. This wouldn’t mean that Brentford are pushovers, even though their recent form leaves a lot to be desired. The Bees are in a very bad run of form, losing four of their last five games with the positive result in that dismal run being a bore draw against Crystal Palace.

Arsenal Team News

Everyone connected with the club are still sweating for updates on Takehiro Tomiyasu following his calf injury, and will be pleased with the last update from Arteta,

We are all good. The doubt was Tomiyasu, which is still not perfect, but he has trained the last few days so he is in contention and we can use him so that’s really positive.

Back up goalie, Bernd Leno, remains sidelined due to COVID, while Gabriel Martinelli is suspended courtesy of the most bizarre red card you’d ever see.

Club talisman, Ivan Toney, has struggled with a calf injury that has sidelined him for the last two games, so he’s scheduled to have a fitness test to determine his availability for today’s game.
