To many Arsenal fans, the name, Jack Wilshere, brings back some fond memories of that lad from Hale End Academy strutting his stuff on the biggest stage before his career went downhill thanks to a litany of never-ending injuries. Wilshere was in the peak of his powers in the 2010-11 season, featuring in all but three Premier League games for Arsenal, as well as playing consistently in the domestic cups and Europe, earning himself the PFA Young Player of the Year award for that season, as well as Arsenal’s Player of the Season.

However, Wilshere suffered a season ending ankle injury that summer and even though he returned back to the side after missing an entire campaign, the incessant injuries took their tool on his body with the Englishman becoming a shadow of the player that once set the world alight with his breathtaking performances. After losing his place in the team, Wilshere was shipped out to AFC Bournemouth on loan and he featured regularly for them, without really lighting up any fireworks at the south coast, so it was no surprise when he returned back to Arsenal after such a disappointing spell.

When it became evident that the Gunners were going to cut their ties with Wilshere, he remained in London as West Ham came calling with a three year deal on a free transfer, which seemed to make sense for all involved. Arsenal and everyone connected with the club were genuinely happy for their former lad, as he was going to remain in the Premier League and showcase he stuff, but it wasn’t to be at West Ham, as he featured sparingly and was eventually shipped off for a second spell at Bournemouth in the SkyBet Championship where he made 14 appearances.

Then came the dark times – his contract expired with West Ham and Wilshere was without a club for the best part of one year. He even pondered retirement at some point, but he made a conscious decision to keep himself fit and started training at Arsenal.

The breaking news regarding Wilshere is that he has signed a short term deal with Danish outfit, Aarhus Gymnastikforening, and will remain with them to the end of the campaign. He had some words following the confirmation of the deal,

“Since I started training with Arsenal, I have never hidden the fact that it was to be ready for 2022 and for a new club. Now the right club is here, and it will be an exciting new challenge for me.

“I am in a place in my career where I need to get started again after a difficult period and that opportunity AGF has offered me. For that I am very grateful, and I will do everything I can to live up to the expectations.”
