Arsenal hosted Manchester City at the Emirates and the main news dominating the proceedings was the fitness of Bukayo Saka. Unfortunately, Saka wasn’t deemed fit enough to feature for the first time in 87 Premier League games, and Arsenal had to soldier on without him. After a very tight contest, Gabriel Martinelli scored a late goal which was enough to earn Arsenal’s first Premier League win against Manchester City since 2015.
Without further ado, here are the Gooner Daily player ratings for the Arsenal vs Manchester City.
Starting XI
David Raya: Was uncharacteristically nervous in the early part of the game and gained confidence as the match progressed. His pings to Gabriel Jesus on the right turned to clock work. (6)
Ben White: Was mentally aware on the right and did very well to support the attack and defense. That nutmeg to Jeremy Doku was a peach. (7)
William Saliba: Finally released Erling Haaland from his pocket at full time. (8)
Gabriel: Looked very assured with Saliba alongside him. (8)
Oleksandr Zinchenko: Did his usual inverting thing like the boss he is. Arsenal have such a gem in him. (7)
Declan Rice: Was dominant in midfield and progressed the ball well. His tackling was top notch too. (8)
Jorginho: Was very tidy on the ball and was rightly subbed off after putting up a good shift. (7)
Martin Odegaard: Was the king of the press further up the pitch and showed good leadership to rally the troops. His shooting was woeful though. (7)
Gabriel Jesus: Had a lot of the ball on the right but his contributions in the final third left a lot to be desired. (6)
Leandro Trossard: Had a stinker and was rightly yanked off at half time. (4)
Eddie Nketiah: Was a constant threat with his running but could have done better with his end product. (6)
Substitutes
Gabriel Martinelli: Was a breathe of life to the Arsenal attack down the left and got the goal that handed his team all three points. (8)
Takehiro Tomiyasu: Slotted in easily for Zinchenko and supported the attack from the left. Provided solidity at the back too. (7)
Kai Havertz: Thanks for the Kai-ssist. (7)
Thomas Partey: Showed his influence with good presence in central midfield. (7)
Sayonara.
