With international football still taking center stage, club football has gone to the back burner and Arsenal’s sporting director, Edu Gaspar, has been on the news following the reports that he was seen visiting Brazilian outfit, Fluminense, with a keen eye on their prized asset, Andre.
Andre is a 22-year-old starlet that has been an ever-present for Fluminense this season, featuring predominantly as a defensive midfielder and sometimes in central midfield and attacking midfield. With Thomas Partey and Mohamed Elneny set to depart the club this January for the African Cup of Nations, the Gunners will be relatively light in that position and will be looking for additional cover for Declan Rice and Jorginho, especially in defensive midfield.
Andre is a youngster that can feature as a good backup option, while adapting to life in North London, so it will be interesting to see the outcome of his visit to Fluminense. The Fluminense social media team wasted no time in sharing the pictures of Edu touring their training facility, and the Arsenal chief expressed his admiration for the Fluminense facilities as well as the atmosphere, citing it as an impressive piece of work.
Andre is also a target for Liverpool but I don’t expect a bidding war for the midfielder’s services but I’m certain Andre wouldn’t be too expensive, despite being in contract till 2026.
I will keep monitoring the situation as it develops but nothing concrete can be done till January.
