Burnley Preview: Keep Up the Pace at the Top

Arsenal Beat Burnley 3-1 Thanks To Leandro Trossard Masterclass

Arsenal’s last outing against West Ham was downright impressive and raised the spirits, revitalizing the title race, as Mikel Arteta’s men continue to keep the pace with Manchester City and Liverpool, as they visit Turf Moor to take on Burnley. Arsenal will be expected to have a routine win over Burnley but the Premier League has brought its fair share of surprises.

When both sides met in November 2023, Leandro Trossard stole the show with an impressive performance but Oleksandr Zinchenko popped up with a breathtaking scissor kick that earned him the Arsenal Goal of the Month. Sadly, Zinchenko might not be in contention for the game, following his injury concerns, but Jakub Kiwior is available to serve as a deputy in a left center back role, while Ben White would invert from the right.

Burnley are winless in 10 home league fixtures versus the Gunners since beating them as far back as 1975. They won’t also be helped with the fact that Arsenal has won 13 of their last 14 Premier League games against newly promoted opposition, with the exception a 1-0 defeat at Nottingham Forest in May. Burnley will also be mindful of the threat Arsenal pose from set pieces, with the Gunners scoring 11 goals from corners this season.

Vincent Kompany has stubbornly stuck to his 4-4-2 formation, which has seen his Burnley side languish in the relegation zone all season, with 17 losses from 24 games. I don’t see him changing it anytime soon, and Arsenal could exploit it.

To team news, Burnley would be without the likes of Nathan Redmond, Luca Koleosho, Lyle Foster and Jordan Beyer, while veteran defender, Charlie Taylor, might be available for selection after several weeks out. Arsenal still have Thomas Partey, Jurrien Timber and Fabio Vieira as long term absentees, while they will be sweating over the fitness of Gabriel Jesus, Oleksandr Zinchenko, Emile Smith Rowe and Takehiro Tomiyasu.
