The European Championships are set to commence on Friday, June 14th with nations completing their respective friendlies. Arsenal has its contingent that will be part of the soccer fiesta and Gooner Daily will review the players that have featured so far on friendlies action.
Kai Havertz
Germany 0-0 Ukraine: Arsenal’s most improved player from the last campaign led the line for the Euro 2024 hosts and played 60 minutes in the stalemate with Ukraine.
Germany 2-1 Greece: Havertz scored the equalizing goal for Germany in their 2-1 win against Greece. It was a well taken goal that saw the forward score on the turn, sending the keeper the wrong way.
Havertz is expected to start for Germany in their Euro 2024 group stage matches against Scotland (June 14th), Hungary (June 19th) and Switzerland (June 23rd)
Kieran Tierney
Giltraltar 0-2 Scotland: Tierney came on as a sub with 30 minutes to spare for Liverpool’s Andrew Robertson. Scotland ran out as 2-0 with goals from Ryan Christie and Che Adams.
Scotland 2-2 Finland: Tierney played the full 90 minutes as a center back in Scotland’s draw with Finland.
Tierney would be hoping to feature for Scotland in their group stage fixtures against Germany (June 14th), Switzerland (June 19th) and Hungary (June 23rd)
David Raya
Spain 5-0 Andorra: Raya played 90 minutes and earned in a clean sheet in Spain’s routing of Andorra.
Spain 5-1 Northern Ireland: Raya was back to the bench in Spain’s win over Northern Ireland.
Bar any injuries to Unai Simon, I don’t expect Raya to play any match for Spain. The only probable option would be in Matchday 3 against Albania, if Spain has advanced to the Round of 16.
Jorginho
Italy 0-0 Turkey: Jorginho played for an hour in Italy’s uneventful draw against Turkiye.
Italy 1-0 Bosnia: Jorginho played for 65 minutes in Italy’s narrow win over Bosnia.
Jorginho is expected to start for Italy in their Euro 2024 group stage matches against Albania (June 15th), Spain (June 20th) and Croatia (June 24th)
Jakub Kiwior
Poland 3-1 Ukraine: Kiwior played the entire game in Poland’s win over Ukraine.
Poland 2-1 Turkey: Kiwior played the entire game with Poland’s win over Turkiye.
Kiwior is expected to start for Poland in their Euro 2024 group stage matches against Netherlands (June 16th), Austria (June 21st) and France (June 25th)
Bukayo Saka, Declan Rice and Aaron Ramsdale
England 3-0 Bosnia: There was no Arsenal presence in England’s 3-0 win over Bosnia.
England 0-1 Iceland: Ramsdale and Rice played the full 90 in England’s surprise loss to Iceland. Saka came on as a sub i the 66th minute.
With Gareth Southgate favoring Jordon Pickford, Ramsdale will certainly stay on the bench with a potential appearance in Matchday 3, while Rice and Saka will be regular starters expected to start for England in their Euro 2024 group stage matches against Serbia (June 16th), Denmark (June 20th) and Slovenia (June 25th)
William Saliba
France 3-0 Luxembourg: Saliba came on as a half time sub for France in the win over Luxembourg.
France 0-0 Canada: Saliba played the full 90 minutes in the draw with Canada.
Saliba is not favored by the France gaffer, Didier Deschamps, and will probably feature in Matchday 3 against Poland. France takes on Austria (June 17th), Netherlands (June 21st) and Poland (June 25th)
Leandro Trossard
Belgium 2-0 Montenegro: Trossard came on as a half time sub and scored a late penalty in Belgium’s win over Montenegro.
Belgium 3-0 Luxembourg: Trossard scored a great goal in the routine win over Luxembourg. After receiving a long ball from Wout Faes, the diminutive winger skipped past his marker and blasted the ball past the goalie.
Trossard is expected to start for Belgium in their Euro 2024 group stage matches against Slovakia (June 17th), Romania (June 22nd) and Ukraine (June 26th)
Oleksandr Zinchenko
Germany 0-0 Ukraine: Arsenal’s most improved player from the last campaign led the line for the Euro 2024 hosts and played 60 minutes in the stalemate with Ukraine.
Poland 3-1 Ukraine: Zinchenko came on as a half time sub in Ukraine’s loss to Poland.
Moldova 0-4 Ukraine: Zinchenko came on as a sub for Vitali Mykolenko in the 30th minute in the routine win over Moldova. With Mykolenko suffering an injury, Zinchenko will probably start as a left back in Ukraine’s Euro 2024 games.
Zinchenko is expected to start at Ukraine in their Euro 2024 group stage matches against Romania (June 17th), Slovakia (June 21st) and Belgium (June 26th)
