After a draw against Bournemouth and a win over arch-rivals, Manchester United, Arsenal visited Philadelphia to take on Arne Slot and his Liverpool side that have moved on after so many years with Jurgen Klopp at the helm.
The Gunners began the clash on the front foot but got behind when Mohamed Salah was in behind the defense, picking his spot and placing it neatly past Karl Hein. Oleksandr Zinchenko was yet again culpable for the goal, like he was a couple of months ago at Anfield.
Arsenal pressed on for the equalizer and Gabriel Martinelli bore down on goal, before attempting to feed Gabriel Jesus but his effort was blocked by Jarrell Quansah. A better pass and Jesus would have had the chance on a platter. Diogo Jota was sent through on goal and had a gaping net to score but his effort clipped the post.
With Arsenal failing to take the initiative, Liverpool doubled their money when Harvey Elliot dunked a brilliant ball over the defense to Fabio Carvalho’s path, who wasted no time in blasting the ball past Hein to make it 2-0.
Arsenal clawed one back when Martin Odegaard showed his class to create a chance that was prodded home by Kai Havertz. After that goal, there wasn’t much for goal mouth scrambles and that was pretty much it.
It was a good runout for the lads and they will head back home for some Emirates Cup action against Bayer Leverkusen and Olympique Lyonnais.
It’s back to more transfer window tattle before the football does the talking in a couple of days.
